Tabor to host leadership symposium

For the second time since 2002, Tabor College will host the Tabor Leadership Symposium April 30 to May 2.

The symposium is designed to speak to those who show leadership potential and equip and train them as student leaders, said Wendell Loewen, assistant professor of biblical and religious studies and faculty advisor of the symposium.

The title of the conference is "Shake a Rattle, Shake the World: Adventures in Childlike Faith" and will feature Dr. Chapman R. Clark as the symposium speaker. Clark will emphasize the importance of a childlike faith and how that influences others.

"He's been a leading voice in the area of youth ministry for a number of years," Loewen said. "If you're going to talk about the top 10 influential people in youth ministry, he would be one."

Clark is the associate professor of youth, family and culture as well as the director of youth ministry programs at Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, Calif.

Along with Clark, the students attending the symposium will participate in a range of activities from games to leadership challenges to small group work.

"These activities sort of push you in certain ways," Loewen said. "They are problem-solving activities."

Approximately 100 students are expected to attend the event and will benefit in many ways. Loewen said there are a few ways that can happen.

"As groups come and they spend time together, I hope that they can find unity. We hope that [the sessions] can help them maybe understand their leadership abilities and gifts and test them. And then, hopefully give them some tools to equip them so they can go back home to their home churches and schools to put some of this into practice."
