Tabor to test win streak against Falcons

Winning three in a row and four out of their last five games, things are looking a little more like they used to for the Bluejays.

Tabor will need every bit of momentum it can muster heading into Saturday's showdown in Wichita against the NAIA's 10th ranked team — the Friends Falcons.

Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.

Falcon head coach Monty Lewis' team isn't just beating its opponents; it hasn't allowed any points for five straight weeks.

At the same time, the Falcons have outscored opponents 168-0, averaging 34 points a game to stay in a three-way tie for first in the KCAC.

The beatings continued Saturday as the Falcons hammered Southwestern, 48-0. (By comparison, Tabor struggled for a 12-8 victory over the Builders Oct. 21).

Tabor (5-3 overall, 4-3 KCAC) wrapped up the home portion of its schedule Saturday, keeping the Ottawa Braves winless with a 27-14 victory.

Quarterback DeJuan Jones threw for 104 yards and three touchdowns with 65 going to Caleb Marsh, who caught two for touchdowns.

The other score, an 18-yard completion to Nate Owens, put Tabor in front for good early in the first quarter.

Back to back passes from Jones to Marsh gave the Bluejays a 20-0 lead before Ottawa quarterback Greg Guzman found Jacob Pillion to make it 20-7 at the half.

Andy Bartell became the first Bluejay in school history to return three interceptions for touchdowns in a single season. His 27-yard pick-off and return in the third quarter broke a record set in 1978 by Bernard Malone.

Jones also carried the ball six times for a game-high 56 yards rushing while Julius Williams furnished 54 more yards off nine carries.

Defensively, Tabor held the Braves to negative yardage rushing with -53 and just 134 yards total offense.
