Tabor tracksters compete at Bethany

The Tabor College track and field team competed Saturday in the Bethany College Invitational track meet in Lindsborg.

"This first meet finally gave us a chance for the team to compete after a couple of months of training," said head coach Dave Kroeker. "Now we have heights, times, and distances that we can work to improve on the rest of the season."

The top performance of the day came from freshman Caleb Marsh as he broke a 30-year-old school record in the pole vault in his first meet as a Bluejay clearing 13'6". He also long jumped 21' 9.5".

Other notable early season marks were achieved by junior Merle Johnson in the 100M dash (10.87); sophomore Cody Dick in the javelin (162' 6") and the hammer (124'); freshman Jacob Sattler, javelin (159' 1"); sophomore Brent Wichert, discus (132' 2"); and junior Will Higerd and sophomore Jeff Anenson, pole vault (12').

On the women's side, strong performances were turned in by freshman Heidi Schmidt in the 1500M (5:20.97); freshman Amber Wiens, 1500M (5:29.88); senior Angela Jost, 5000M (20:57.57); and freshman Shelby Miller, long jump (16' 2.5").

Other teams competing in the he meet included Bethany, Bethel, Sterling, Friends, Kansas Wesleyan, Hutchinson Community College, McPherson College, and Haskell University.

The next competition for the Bluejay thinclads will be Saturday at McPherson College.
