Tabor women mark third consecutive victory
Ever since a cold shooting performance Jan. 12 against the Ottawa Braves, the Lady Bluejays seem to be a different team.
It was a good week for the Bluejays, who extended their winning streak to three games with a huge 51-42 road win Monday night against St. Mary in Leavenworth.
The victory over the Lady Spires pushes the Bluejays' record to 9-10 overall and 5-4 in the KCAC.
Tabor led at halftime 25-22 with the aid of Rachelle Speers and Carmen Hein.
Speers and Hein combined for 28 points and all three of the Bluejays' threes. Speers finished with a team-high 15 and Hein added 13.
Tabor hit 35 percent from the floor while holding the Spires to just 31 percent.
The Bluejays snapped a two-game slide Jan. 17 with another big road win at Salina against the Kansas Wesleyan Lady Coyotes.
Led by the trio of Speers, Angela Kroeker and Hein, the Bluejays overcome a 30-26 deficit at halftime to down the Coyotes, 74-69.
Speers scored a game-high 23 points, Kroeker scored 21 and Hein scored11 with five steals.
Eleven of Tabor's 49 rebounds came from Becky Jons, who had nine offensively.
Two days later at home against Bethel, the duo of Speers and Kroeker combined for 39 of Tabor's 54 points as the Bluejays topped the Threshers, 54-45.
The Bluejays' defense harassed the Threshers into shooting a stagnant 29 percent for the game while Tabor was 41 percent for the night.
With the two teams each scoring 26 in the second half, the Bluejays' 28-19 first half proved to be the difference in the game.
The Bluejays face Southwestern today at home for a 6 p.m. start.
Tabor then travels Saturday to McPherson for a 5 p.m. game with the Lady Bulldogs.
