The Bluejay women lost to Friends 1-4 last Monday, beat York College in York, Neb., 2-0 last Saturday, and lost to Ottawa 1-4 last Thursday. The team lost to Bethany 1-2 in overtime on Oct. 11 and played McPherson Oct. 6, winning 3-1.

"They're good, and have a lot of speed," said Hank Wiebe, head women's soccer coach at Tabor College, about the Friends team.

Kandi Holland, a senior from San Merino, Calif., scored the team's one goal in the game.

Holland scored two goals against York College. The first on a penalty kick, and the second goal was off an assist from Michelle Rink, a senior from Wichita.

Wiebe was pleased with the team's win, but felt they could have done better.

"We did OK at York," he said, "nothing spectacular."

Holland also scored Tabor's only goal against Ottawa.

"We were competing pretty well," said Wiebe. "They're a good team. We just couldn't keep it up for a full 90 minutes. Ottawa is better, more physical, and faster than we are."

Rink scored the team's one goal against Bethany with 15 minutes left, tying the game. Twenty seconds into overtime, Bethany scored ending the game in sudden death.

Wiebe said the women were creating opportunities for scoring, but weren't finishing.

"I was kind of disappointed in our defense," he said.

Against McPherson Holland scored two goals in the first half. Both goals were off assists from Rink. In the second half, Stephanie Stuber, a junior from Wichita, scored the team's third goal off an assist from Holland. Goalie Sarah Lopez made eight saves.

Tabor is currently seventh in the conference.

"We're a game behind Sterling," said Wiebe, "so if we beat them, our records would be identical. That should put us in the tournament."

The women's next game is against Sterling College at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Sterling.
