Tales of Tulsa

Please don't label me a deserter for not being at the Collegiate game Friday night.

You see, I had a perfectly good reason: I was on the road to Tulsa, Okla., to visit my best friend Jenny.

More specifically, she lives in Broken Arrow, which is a southern suburb of Tulsa. But it might as well have been Los Angeles, because I got lost.

Typical.

When you have directions to turn right, and when that right-hand turn puts you smack dab in front of a "Road Closed" sign, there's bound to be some confusion.

Never fear, I finally made it to the house Jenny and her husband, Erik, have lived in during their seven months of marriage.

Since they're newlyweds, I expected a hefty amount of smooshiness. I wasn't disappointed.

And even though I was the singleton tagging along as we walked through the light display at Rhema Bible College, I still had a great time.

On a girl's day out on Saturday, Jenny and I ate at this funky restaurant with multicolored track lighting and tiger-striped carpet. It was called either "The Wilted Fork" or "The Winding Fork" or "The Wild Fork," I can't remember which.

Then we went shopping at Pier One and Pottery Barn, and I'm proud to say I only spent $2. Amazing!

We also had a good time just chilling at home. It's so wonderful to have a best friend whom you can watch "Dumb and Dumber" with for the 50th time and you both laugh at the same parts.

Sunday afternoon it was time to come home — and once again I got lost. Even in the daylight, Tulsa can be a tough place to navigate.

By Sunday night I was home — back in Hillsboro, where there's no traffic and my commute to work takes 30 seconds.

But I did have a good weekend in the big city.
