Tampa 4-H'ers earn numerous honors

Several Tampa 4-H youths exhibited at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson last week. Congratulations to them on excellent work. Julie Rziha received a purple on her Swedish tea ring and a red on a skirt. Kristine Jirak earned purple on both a dress and rolls. Amanda Kleiber and Jackie Klenda both won purples on crocheting. Amanda also was awarded a purple in rocketry. Kevin Mueller won a blue on a three-year-old Holstein cow and Kristin Mueller took home blues for both a three-year-old and a two-year-old Holstein cow. Nathan Barney received a red in intermediate entomology. Those earning ribbons in photography were Amy Hajek, purple; Jacob Jirak, red; Shaina Makovec, blue; and Jessica Deines, blue.

Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna brought cake, cookies, and gifts to the home of their parents, Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Sunday evening in celebration of Grandparents' Day.

Stephanie Claasen of Marion, Martha Melcher, and Eleanor Murphy were Sunday evening visitors of Helen Schwartzman.

Tillie Hein attended the wedding of Tamara Rhodes and Scott Koehn Sunday morning at the Morning Star Church.

Rodney Mueller arrived here from Cheyenne, Wyo., Sept. 3 to spend some time with his mother Phyllis Mueller and other relatives.

Valerie Hampton spent the weekend in Turner, Mo., for a family reunion.

Leona Kleiber spent from Friday to Monday in Augusta with her daughter and family, Dean and Becky Routh, Allison, Melody, and Danielle.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer went to Hutchinson Saturday and attended the state fair.

Adeline Bernhardt spent from Friday to Monday at Wellington with Carl and Kathy Hubbard and Clint. All attended the football game Friday evening between Wellington and North Heights-Wichita. Clint played on the Wellington team. DeeAnna Stout and Gabrielle of Wichita met them at the game and stayed overnight. The Hubbards and Adeline attended worship Sunday at the Calvary Lutheran Church followed by a taco dinner.

Danielle Heath of Salina was given a Bible at Trinity Lutheran Church Sunday morning to mark her entry into mid-week confirmation classes. Relatives from here attending the service were Phyllis Mueller, Rodney Mueller, Paul and Edna Backhus, and Tom and Bev Reid. All were dinner guests of Ron and Jody Heath, Danielle and Tyler.

Wayne and Marita Schwartzman of Wichita spent last week with his mother, Helen Schwartzman. Leroy Schwartzman of Ballwin, Mo., was an additional Sept. 2 overnight guest. John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina joined them in the evening and brought supper. The occasion was a celebration of John's birthday.

Lucille Kerbs visited Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor in Abilene Saturday.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the Lions Club pancake feed in Herington Friday evening.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer attended a volleyball game and a football game in Marion Thursday evening. Nikki Stenzel and James Weber played volleyball and football, respectively. Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and Anna joined the group for the football game.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended a meeting of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees in Herington Thursday evening. Bill Kassebaum was the featured speaker.

Lutheran Women's Missionary League met in the church basement the evening of Sept. 3 with Edna Mueller as hostess. Pastor Clark Davis led the topic and devotions. Others present included Kathy Davis, Betty Mueller, Alma Meyer, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, and Edna Backhus.

Rustyn Kerbs was a Sept. 3 supper guest of his grandparents, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs.

Ophelia Jacobson, Phyllis Mueller, and Edna Backhus were among relatives and friends from this community who attended funeral services for Ella Schuber Sept. 3 at the Durham Baptist church. Mrs. Schuber spent most of her 101 years in the Tampa and Durham area and won many friends here. Her family has the sympathy of the community.

Leona Kleiber attended the Centre High School volleyball quadrangular Sept. 2. Her granddaughter Amanda Kleiber is on the Centre team.

Alex Hajek took first place in his age group and third place overall in the two-mile fun run at Burdick's Labor Day celebration.

Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan spent the Labor Day weekend in Bartlesville, Okla., with Ernie and Darlene Kite. On the way down Friday, they met Ernie Bonham and friend Brenda at Caney and enjoyed supper together. The Halls, Duggans, and Kites met Bill and Toni Bockius in Tulsa Saturday evening and enjoyed supper together. They visited Steve and Lisa Kite at Stillwater on Sunday. They enjoyed seeing their new home and touring the Oklahoma State University campus.

Michael Jay of Hillsboro, Bev and Tom Reid of Marion County Lake, and Paul and Edna Backhus attended the Labor Day parade and festivities in Florence. Michael and Tom competed in the horseshoe tournament.

Friends helping Jane Vajnar celebrate her birthday with pie at a Durham café the afternoon of Aug. 30 were Shannon Rziha of Tulsa, Okla., Jeanne Rziha of Atchison, Diane Herron and Peter of Wichita, Diane Steiner, Kathy Oborny, and Jeanne Rziha and Julie.

Carolyn Duggan of Hutchinson was a recent visitor of Tom and Dee Duggan.
