Tampa: Community prepares for exchange visit

Tampa Community Association met Monday evening to finalize plans for an exchange of visits with Tampa, Fla., to take place Feb. 11-13. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Allen of Brandon, Fla., will come here while Mayor Jim and Mary Clemmer go to Florida. Allen received the trip as a prize in a contest sponsored by KFLA, a Tampa radio station. He submitted the winning slogan for the Tampa Bay area, "Paradise Under Construction." Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie will be hosts to the Allens. Activities will include farm visits, a historical tour, Centre's homecoming basketball game, and a Saturday evening community potluck supper. There also will be a noon luncheon Saturday at Butch's Diner. Call Carla Hajek by Thursday for reservations.

Tom and Dee Duggan were among those attending a reception at Durham Baptist Church Sunday afternoon in celebration of Irvin Christiansen's 90th birthday. A number of other Tampa people also were in attendance.

Sunday dinner guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki.

Janie Rziha presented a program Sunday afternoon at Hope sponsored by the altar society of Saint Philip's Catholic Church. She talked about her mission trip to Guatemala last year.

Reuben Kerbs and Eric Akers of Wichita and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn were Sunday after-church visitors of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs.

Don and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., spent from Thursday to Tuesday with Tillie Hein and Philothea Snell. Additional Sunday dinner guests were Ron and Dolores Scott of Emporia, Bill and Pamela Fillmore of Cottonwood Falls, and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole.

Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn met Ryan Spohn of Manhattan Saturday in Junction City for dinner out. They also paid a brief visit to Steve Spohn at work.

Weekend guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie were Wayne and Shannon Rziha, Cecilia and Anthony of Tulsa, Okla., Janie Rziha, John and Jeanne Rziha, Michael, Christopher, Joseph, Timothy, and Thomas of Atchison, Diane Herron, Andrew and Peter of Solomon, and Cecilia Rziha of Hays. David Rziha and Caterina Rozman met them Friday evening at Abilene where they attended the wedding of David Whitehair and Jenny Hoffman.

Peggy Kleiber was a Saturday morning visitor of Leona Kleiber.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Marion Saturday morning for the sixth grade basketball game between Centre and Marion II team. Their grandson, Rustyn Kerbs played.

Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, and Peggy Kleiber attended the annual Kansas Day program Friday afternoon at Centre. Nicholas Kleiber was one of the participants.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs also attended the Kansas Day program at Centre. Rustyn Kerbs was in the program.

Tom and Dee Duggan visited Mary Christiansen Wednesday at the assisted living center in Marion.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt enjoyed dinner out Thursday in Salina.

Virgil and Kathy Kroupa of Wichita, Marty Kroupa, Tillie Hein, and Philothea Snell were dinner guests Jan. 25 of Edmond and Mary Lou Kroupa.

Nicholas Kleiber was a supper guest Wednesday evening of Leona Kleiber.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went Thursday morning to Abilene. They met Connie Thompson for dinner out.

Jane Vajnar went to Marion Jan. 25. She made brief visits to Gene Costello at Marion Manor and Dorman and Mary Helen Becker and Mary Christiansen at the assisted living center.

Jack and Sharon Grosse of Peabody, Leona Kleiber, and Adeline Bernhardt joined Milda Krauter Jan. 25 for the family potluck at Marion Manor.

Paul and Edna Backhus attended the Kansas Water Well Convention at the Holiday Inn Convention Center Thursday and Friday in Great Bend. The event featured a banquet Thursday evening.

A group of Red Hat Ladies and their guests joined a bus tour Thursday to Wichita. They visited Hatman Jack's and enjoyed the production of "Forever Plaid" at the Crown Uptown Dinner Theater. Those attending included Rose Mary Deines, Helen Sorenson, Ramona Goracke, Betty Schlesener, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, Betty Mueller, Tom and Dee Duggan, Joe and Joyce Cox, and Everett and Rhea Kolling.

Eleanor Herbel, Mildred Hamm, and Jane Vajnar were among those attending a meeting Thursday evening of King's Daughters at Durham Baptist Church. As part of a series of lessons on women of the Bible, Connie Wiens led a lesson on Mary of Bethany, and Ruth Hamm presented a mission study. Refreshments were served by the hostesses Lois Nuss and Frances Unruh.

Georgia Spohn visited Marguerite Goertz Thursday morning in Hillsboro.

Nicholas Kleiber spent Wednesday afternoon with his grandmother, Leona Kleiber. Andrea Kleiber joined them for supper.

Tony Young of Goessel visited Wednesday with his aunt, Lois Sklenar.

The St. John Lutheran Women's Missionary League met Wednesday evening at the church. Pastor Clark Davis led the topic. Elaine Backhus was hostess. Others present were Kathy Davis, Joyce Medley, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, Betty Mueller, and Cindy Bentz. The group planned their activities for 2005.

Sunflower Senior Citizens met Jan. 18 with Jim and Mary Clemmer as hosts. The meeting had been postponed from the usual second Tuesday because of the ice storm. Others present were Adeline Bernhardt, Margaret Jirak, Magdalen Dvorak, Frank Patton, Eleanor Murphy, Leona Kleiber, and Ruby Vinduska. After the meal and business meeting, the group played card bingo.

Amanda Kleiber was an evening visitor Jan. 17 of her grandmother, Leona Kleiber.

Don and Betty Frick of Topeka visited Jan. 17 with Tom and Dee Duggan.

to meet Feb. 9

Marion County Special Education Cooperative board of directors will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 9 at the cooperative's conference room, 302 West Eighth, Florence.

The meeting is to discuss the executive director search process.
