Tampa: Group to begin planning Santa Fe Trail Fest

The Tampa Community Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the senior center. The group will begin planning the Santa Fe Trail Fest and Christmas celebration.
Paul and Edna Backhus attended a meeting of the Kansas Water Well Association Saturday and Sunday. Events included a ball game followed by a cream-can supper Saturday at Cottonwood Point. Family members who joined them a for a golf tournament and hog roast Sunday at Marion Country Club were Ron and Jody Heath, Danielle and Tyler of Salina, Bev and Tom Reid of Marion County Lake, Mike and Jennifer Jay of Hillsboro, Brad Backhus, Jason Backhus, Phyllis Mueller, and Rod Mueller.
Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki spent the weekend in Wichita. Nikki participated in the Miss Teen of America Scholarship and Recognition Program at the Broadview Hotel. Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom Moldenhauer and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna joined them Sunday for the pageant. The group had dinner and supper out.
Greg Sklenar of Wichita was a weekend guest of his mother, Lois Sklenar. Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro was an additional dinner guest Sunday.
Jeanne Rziha spent the weekend with Louise Bevilacqua in Wichita at a sisters' reunion. Others present were Janey Hummel of Colorado Springs, Susan Denney of Independence, Carol Whitehair and Bonnie Haslouer of Abilene, Linda Haslouer of Navarre, and Pat Jolly of Lincoln, Neb.
Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt visited Sunday afternoon with Milda Krauter at Marion Manor in Marion.
Helen Schwartzman and her guests, Geraldine Noonan of Dallas, Texas, and Leroy Schwartzman of Ballwin, Mo., attended the Schwartzman family reunion this weekend at the Holiday Inn in Salina. Also attending were John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina, Helen Jean McGonigle and Wayne and Marita Schwartzman of Wichita, Todd and Mindy Noonan and Kelly Noonan and friend Dan of Dallas, Texas, Joe and Jennifer Schwartzman and Molly of Portland, Ore., and Ashley Schwartzman and friend Matthew of St. Louis. Mo.
Leona Kleiber joined Peggy Kleiber at the Methodist church in Hillsboro to watch 4-H members model purchased and constructed outfits Thursday. Andrea and Nicholas Kleiber were participants.
Cecilia and Janie Rziha have finished their summer jobs and plan to spend time with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie until school starts.
Georgia Spohn visited Saturday morning with Marguerite Goertz of Hillsboro. Marguerite's daughter, Bonita, was a houseguest of her mother.
Family members spending Sunday with Helen Schwartzman included Kelly Noonan of Dallas, Texas; Ashley Schwartzman of St. Louis, Mo.; John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina; Joe and Jennifer Schwartzman and Molly of Portland, Ore.; and Wayne and Marita Schwartzman of Wichita.
The community was represented at the Relay for Life Friday evening in Marion by the Santa Fe Trail team. Walt and Iona Dietrich, Gary Spohn, Tom Duggan, and Lisa Hanschu participated in the survivors' walk, as well as taking a turn in the relay. Other walkers on the team were Tina Clement, Tina Novak, Jane Vajnar, Phyllis Mueller, Bev Reid, Paul Backhus, Vickie Jirak, Julie Kerbs, Rustyn Kerbs, Francie Mueller, Carole Spohn, and Deb Hall and Kaylee. The event raised $23,000 for the American Cancer Society. The Santa Fe Trail team raised more than $1,100.
Leona Kleiber was a supper guest July 28 of Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, Andrea and Nicholas.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs, Russ and Julie Kerbs, Ashton Kerbs, and Jesse Smith attended several games July 25-27 of the Cal Ripken district tournament for 11-year-olds at Lyons. Rustyn Kerbs played on the Cottonwood Valley All-Stars team, which took first place and advanced to the state tournament at Osawatamie. Russ, Julie, and Ashton attended the state tournament where the CVL team placed third. Other Tampa boys on the team were Cole Svoboda and Adam Matz.
Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber accompanied Cindy Vinduska to Wichita July 24. They met Melissa Stuchlik. The women and Tanner went to Wellington to attend a bridal shower for Holly Howerton of Augusta, bride-elect of Aaron Routh. Becky Routh, Melody, Allison, and Danielle of Augusta and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington also attended.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene July 20-21 for girls' softball tournament. Their granddaughter, Allison Phillips, played on the Ike's I team. Doug and Connie Thompson also were present.

Mary and Jim Clemmer were presented with a new great-grandson Thursday. Seth Allen Clemmer is the son of Shawn and Karin Clemmer of Salina. He has a two-year-old sister, Blayke.
Sunday dinner and supper guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, and James, Anna, and Ryan Daugherty. The group played croquet and other games in the afternoon. The occasion was the celebration of James' birthday.
Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan met Darla Hall and Adam of Lee's Summit, Mo., Saturday in Kansas City. They stayed overnight and celebrated Dee and Darla's birthdays. Deb had decorated cakes for the girls, Darla's in the shape of a flower and Dee's, a red hat with purple ribbon. All toured stores in the area and Tom and Dee attended Sunday Mass at St. Patrick's.
Geraldine Noonan of Dallas, Texas, arrived Wednesday and Leroy Schwartzman of Ballwin, Mo., arrived Friday to spend time with their mother, Helen Schwartzman. Additional Sunday evening visitors were Stephanie Classen of Marion, Martha Melcher, and Eleanor Murphy.
John and Jeanne Rziha, Michael, Christopher, Joseph, and Timothy of Atchison were weekend guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie. Additional Sunday visitors were Jim and Diane Herron, Andrew and Peter of Solomon, David Rziha of Council Grove, and Bonnie Haslouer of Abilene.
Adeline Bernhardt attended the annual Bernhardt family reunion Sunday at the senior center in Marion and later visited Milda Krauter at Marion Manor. Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington joined her at the nursing home and the Hubbards and Adeline enjoyed supper at Kingfisher's Inn.
Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro was a Sunday dinner guest of Lois Sklenar.
Tom and Dee Duggan attended the vacation Bible school program at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church Friday evening in Herington. Their granddaughter, Kaylee Hall of Herington, performed. Kaylee's mother Deb also was present.
Young people from Tampa attended Totus Tuus camp at Lake Afton July 19-23. Those attending were Julie Rziha, Kristine Jirak, Chelsea Tajchman, and Alisha Barney.
Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, and Lisa Hanschu and Anna attended the Friday evening vacation Bible school program at the Lutheran church in Herington. Anna was in the program, and Lori and Nikki helped with the school. After the program the Stikas enjoyed ice cream with Lisa and Anna and pizza with Tom, Lori, and Nikki.
The American Legion Auxiliary sponsored a tour to a casino Thursday at Topeka. Those attending from the area included Dee Duggan, Jane Vajnar, Bonnie Funk, Eugene and Beryl Steiner, Warren and Paula Fike, Adeline Bernhardt, Tillie Hein, Martha Melcher, Mary Christiansen, Julie Kerbs, Kris Srajer, Vickie Jirak, Sylvia Bezdek, Lucille Bernhardt, Magdalen Dvorak, and Steve and Myrna Eskelson. Dee and Kris were celebrating their birthdays that day. En route, Vickie and Julie served treats for Kris' birthday. Dee's daughter, Deb Hall, sent treats to eat on the way home and birthday ribbons for Dee and Kris to wear. Consequently they got special attention at the casino and many birthday greetings.
Georgia Spohn and Mary Reich enjoyed dinner out Thursday in Herington. Georgia spent July 16-19 with her sister and husband, Orlin and Norma Wagner, in Wichita.
Adeline Bernhardt visited Milda Krauter Wednesday at Marion Manor in Marion.
Julie Rziha and Kristine Jirak participated July 19 in the 4-H Food Fest. Julie placed first in the intermediate division, and Kristine received a blue.
Caterina Rozman of Overland Park and friend Heidi of Strassburg, Austria, spent July 16-17 with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie.
