Tampa: Hiking tales slated for senior program

Sunflower Senior Citizens is sponsoring a program at 2 p.m. Feb. 10 to which the public is invited. Charles and Rita Quinn of Shawnee will offer a presentation of their adventures hiking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine.

Charles and Rita Quinn of Shawnee arrived here Tuesday to help her mother, Evelyn Hensley, celebrate her birthday. They are staying with Evelyn until Thursday morning.

Norma Jean and Orlin Wagner of Wichita visited her sister, Georgia Spohn, on Monday.

Martha Melcher and Tillie Hein attended a card party in Herington Sunday evening.

Richard and Sandy Watson of Peck visited Tom and Dee Duggan Sunday afternoon.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt visited Glen and Milda Krauter Sunday afternoon at Peabody.

Friends helping Evelyn Hensley celebrate her birthday Monday morning with coffee and rolls at Butch's Diner were Elaine Backhus, Lola Teetzen, Edna Mueller, Maxine Mueller, Lucille Kerbs, Lois Sklenar, Betty Mueller, Leona Kleiber, and Adeline Bernhardt.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended a soup dinner in Hope Sunday. The event was sponsored by the St. Philip's Catholic Church.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer, Danny Denham, and Ronnie Hanschu, James and Anna enjoyed dinner in Herington Sunday. Lisa Hanschu was unable to be them because she was on a business trip to Dallas, Texas.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs visited Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor in Abilene Saturday.

Andrea Kleiber visited her grandmother, Leona Kleiber, Thursday evening.

Russ Kerbs took his parents, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs, out for breakfast Jan. 16 as a belated celebration of Reuben's birthday.

Paul and Edna Backhus attended the convention of the Kansas Ground Water Association Jan. 16 and 17 at the Holiday Inn in Great Bend.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt enjoyed dinner in Salina Jan. 14.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Salina Jan. 13 for a movie and supper in celebration of Reuben's birthday. He enjoyed the many cards and phone calls he received.

Tom and Dee Duggan spent the weekend of Jan. 11-13 in Phoenix, Ariz., where they attended the wedding of their niece, Beth Westerhaus, and Mark Schaffer.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to El Dorado Jan. 12 for a surprise party at the Golden Corral honoring Virgil and Barbara Gooding on their retirement from the service station they have operated for 36 years and also celebrating Virgil's birthday. Danny and Debby Gooding will be taking over Gooding's Service Station.

Others attending included Elmer and Joyce Gooding of Tempe, Ariz., Don and Cecile Penney of Topeka, Virgil and Barbara's children, Craig and Crystal Smith of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Dennis and Debbie Love and family of Winfield, Danny and Debby Gooding and family, DeWayne and Rhonda Moore and family of El Dorado, and many friends.

All enjoyed a good meal and watched the Goodings open their cards and gifts. The Rev. Allan and Sherry Reed and family of Britton, S.D., were unable to be present.
