Tampa News: Santa Fe Trail activities are Oct. 12 years ago

Tampa will celebrate Santa Fe Trail Fest Sunday, Oct. 12, starting at 4 p.m. at the ball park. While plans are not yet finalized, activities will include a wiener roast and old-fashioned games. Anyone who wishes to volunteer to help with the event or to contribute ideas should come to the next Tampa Community Association meeting Tuesday, September 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the senior center. Another innovation unveiled at last week's TCA meeting Tuesday, August 12, was a printed folder to use for welcoming newcomers to the community.
Gary and Carole Spohn attended the Obermeyer-Beckel family reunion at Woodbine Sunday.
John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina, Wayne and Marita Schwartzman and Helen Jean McGonigle of Wichita and Larry Parsons of Mount Hope brought dinner and a birthday cake to the home of Helen Schwartzman Sunday to help her celebrate her birthday, which was Monday. Eleanor Murphy was an additional afternoon visitor.

Tampa can be proud of its 4-H youth. The Tampa Triple T's made the grand champion banner at the Marion County fair, and their parade float took second. Kristin Mueller and Jackie Klenda were attendants to the fair queen. The club's grand champions included Kristine Jirak, style revue (constructed); Nicholas Kleiber, style revue (both constructed and purchased), sub-novice dog; Jackie Klenda, crocheting; Justin Deines, Exploring 4-H; Shaina Makovec, photography; Andrea Kleiber, arts and crafts; Jacob Jirak, fine arts; Lauren Geis, dog showmanship; Kristin Mueller, round robin, dairy showmanship, senior dairy showmanship; Chris Will, Simmental; and Darren Mueller, dairy cow, supreme dairy, Holstein dairy. Those bringing home reserve champion ribbons included Kristine Jirak, clothing, constructed clothing, style revue (constructed), food exhibit (level 3 and level 4); Julie Rziha, style revue (constructed); Amanda Kleiber, style revue (purchased); Shelby Deines, style revue (purchased); Nicholas Kleiber, style revue (constructed), junior dog showmanship, electricity exhibit; Cole Svoboda; fine arts, Chris Will, senior beef showmanship; Lucas Hamm, commercial female beef, Maine-Anjou steer; Lauren Geis, beef; Allie Will, Hereford steer; Laura Klenda, Simmental steer; Kevin Mueller, dairy showmanship; and Darren Mueller, junior dairy showmanship. A new Tampa resident, Nathan Barney, while a member of the Lincolnville Wideawake Club, deserves recognition for earning a reserve championship in entomology.
