Tampa News: Town offers sympathies to families

Cecilia Rziha, Maria Jirak, Jenna Tajchman, and Natalie Carlson attended the Future Farmers of America national convention Oct. 30-Nov. 2, in Louisville, Ky. As a team, they placed eighth in the nation in agricultural business. The competition consisted of a written test completed by individuals and an additional activity as a team. Cecilia placed 12th on the written test. FFA members from 42 states entered the competition. A team from Chapman High School placed fourth in the nation in communications. Cindy Hoffman of Navarre was on that team.

Sunday dinner and supper guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki.

Some from this community attended the funeral service for Brian Pagenkopf Monday morning at Lincolnville. His family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.

Sunday evening visitors of Helen Schwartzman were Stephanie Classen of Marion, Eleanor Murphy, and Martha Melcher.

After-church visitors of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs Sunday morning were Russ and Julie Kerbs, Ashton and Rustyn.

Betty and George Brunner of Fenton, Mo., visited Frank and Anna Mae Stika Monday morning.

Heidi Dirks was involved in a one-car accident about six miles west of Tampa Sunday. She was life-watched to Wichita, in extremely critical condition. Late word is that she did not survive. The community extends concern and prayers to her family.

Tony Young of Goessel was a Sunday visitor of his aunt, Lois Sklenar.

John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina spent Sunday with his mother, Helen Schwartzman.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika attended the funeral for her aunt, Emilie Sader, on Saturday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs visited Connie Thompson and Taylor in Abilene Saturday and all enjoyed supper out.

Anna Kristek and Lori Moldenhauer spent last week in Cleveland, Ohio, for a show advertising the business where they work.

Wayne and Shannon Rziha of Tulsa, Okla., spent the weekend with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, Cecilia and Julie.

Jane Vajnar accompanied Ann Fowler of Herington to Junction City Saturday for the district meeting of Kansas Authors Club. The program featured the principal and music teacher from Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School in Manhattan, who told about fourth and fifth grade students there writing and producing an original opera. They showed a video of part of this year's opera and another of the young opera company at work on various aspects of the production.

Georgia Spohn met her cousin Lenora Graham of Florence in Hillsboro Thursday. They attended the Learning in Retirement program at Tabor College, then enjoyed lunch out. The featured speaker was Raelene Fendall of Newberg, Ore., whose topic was "Going 60 on the Road of Life."

Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan attended the Halloween festivities in Herington Thursday. Kaylee won the drawing for a teddy bear. They all visited the nursing home for tricks or treats.

Amanda, Andrea, and Nicholas Kleiber visited their grandmother Leona Kleiber several times during the past week.

Those joining Lola Teetzen in a belated celebration of her birthday with a coffee at the café Friday morning were Adeline Bernhardt, Lucille Kerbs, Leona Kleiber, Betty Mueller, Lois Sklenar, Evelyn Hensley, Edna Mueller, Kathy Davis, and Joyce Medley.

Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna and Nikki Stenzel were Thursday supper guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika in celebration of Halloween.

Jane Vajnar attended the Learning in Retirement program at Tabor College in Hillsboro Thursday morning. After enjoying lunch in the college cafeteria, she went on to Marion to attend the farewell reception for Matt Newhouse at the Marion County Record.

Lt. Anthony Hanson of Fayetteville, N.C., Terry and Cindy Vinduska, and Leona Kleiber enjoyed supper in Lost Springs Oct. 30. They spent the evening visiting at the Vinduska home.

Mary Beth Bowers of Marion presented a program for Prairie Pals Oct. 28 at the American Legion hall. She showed slides of wild flowers growing in this area and furnished a lot of information about their properties and uses. In their business meeting, members decided to serve a hunter's luncheon at the senior center Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Virginia Bentz and Jane Vajnar were hostesses. Others present included Michele Berens, Monica Leihy, Lori Meyer, Jeanne Rziha, and Kathy Oborny.
