Tampa: Quinns share experiences from Appalachian Trail

About 50 people came to the senior center Sunday afternoon to hear Charles and Rita Quinn of Shawnee share their experiences hiking the Appalachian Trail last year. There was a display of the clothing and equipment they used on the journey and they showed many slides of the trail and the beautiful views, flowers, and wildlife along the way. Cookies and coffee or tea were served by members of Sunflower Senior Citizens after the program.

Susie Rziha of Wichita spent the weekend with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, Cecilia and Julie. Jerry and Jeanne attended the Knights of Columbus Valentine dance in Marion Saturday evening.

Bill and Pamela Fillmore of Cottonwood Falls and Tillie Hein were Sunday dinner guests of Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole.

Weekend guests of Evelyn Hensley were Charles and Rita Quinn of Shawnee and Julie Utt of Winfield.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki enjoyed dinner in Salina Saturday.

Leona Kleiber spent from Jan. 24 to Feb. 9 with Dean and Becky Routh, Allison, Melody, and Danielle in Augusta. She was there to help the Rouths while Becky was recuperating from surgery. Leona and Dean and his daughters attended the Butler County 4-H Club Day Feb. 2 at the Augusta High School. Danielle, Melody, and Allison, who are members of Lily Lake 4-H Club, all received top blues on their demonstrations.

The Tampa community was saddened to hear of the death of Fran Malir of Wilson. Fran grew up in the Tampa community. She was a sister of Margaret Jirak and Agnes Bina and had many relatives and friends in this area.

Tampa youth competing in a forensics meet at Council Grove on Saturday were Cecilia Rziha, Laura Klenda, and Amanda and Andrea Kleiber. Cecilia qualified to compete at the state meet later in the spring.

Frank Stika attended a basketball game at Centre Saturday morning in which is grandson, James Weber, played.

Gary and Carole Spohn took his mother, Georgia Spohn, out for supper in Durham Friday evening.

Lutheran Women's Missionary League met the evening of Feb. 6 at the church. Pastor Clark Davis led the topic on trust. Adeline Bernhardt gave the opening and closing devotions about love. Edna Backhus was hostess.

Adeline Bernhardt accompanied Reuben and Lucille Kerbs to the Centre-Solomon basketball game at Centre Feb. 5.

It is probable that your correspondent still will be working at the high school in Marion next week, so there will once again be an early deadline for news.
