Tena Dick

Tena Dick, 93, of Hillsboro, died Dec. 18, 2002, at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

Born Feb. 22, 1909, in Lichtenau, South Russia, she was the daughter of Peter J. and Katharina (Bergen) Dick. The Russian Revolution, famine and anarchy disrupted her family's life as well as her formal education.

The family left Russia in June 1924 and immigrated to Ontario, Canada, where they lived for two years. They moved to Goessel in 1926. She worked at Bethesda Home in Goessel.

On Oct. 9, 1932, she married John Regehr Dick in Goessel. He died in 1999. They lived in Newport, Wash., until returning to Goessel in 1935. From 1938 to 1989 they lived in Washington.

In 1941, she became a citizen of the U.S. In 1942, the family bought a dairy farm in Washington. She was a house wife, farmer, and a member of Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.

She enjoyed baking, quilting, and handwork.

In 1989, John and Tena moved to Hillsboro. They moved to Parkside Homes in 1998

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Edith Dick in 1939; and brothers, John, Peter, and Henry.

Survivors include son, John Dick and wife Carol of Hillsboro; daughters, Frieda Peters and husband Don of Stillwater, Okla., Hilda Just of Rockwall, Texas, and Elsie Lekey and husband Roland of Bushton; brother, Jacob Dick and wife Luella of Lynnwood, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 21 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro with Pastor Bruce Porter officiating. Burial was at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery.

A memorial has been established at Parkside Homes.
