Threshing Days celebrates heritage
Despite nearly 100-degree temperatures, hundreds of spectators and exhibitors crowded the museum grounds at Goessel this past weekend during the 34th annual "Celebrating Our Heritage" Country Threshing Days.
Antique tractors, farming equipment, automobiles, and engines were on display. Ethnic low German food of verenika, bierock, sausage, zwiebach, cherry moos, and New Year's cookies was offered.
Another food attraction was homemade ice cream with the freezers being cranked by pulleys and an electric engine.
Musical performances that included area groups the Lighthouse Quartet, the Heritage Quartet, and Tumbleweed Gospel Jamboree were well attended.
Demonstrations and educational presentations were available throughout the festival.
Numerous children's activities included a scavenger hunt, bale maze, pedal tractor pull, and petting zoo.
The event is sponsored by the Mennonite Heritage Museum, Wheat Heritage Engine and Threshing Company, and area businesses.
