Tomahawks win close contest

Peabody-Burns Junior High School played host Thursday to Berean, narrowly escaping defeat, 30-28.

The Tomahawk offense took the lead in the first, 10-7. Jacob Simmonds had six points and Seth Alstrom scored the other four.

Berean climbed ahead in the second quarter. PBJH scored just four points to trail 17-14 at the half.

Simmonds and Alstrom each had a basket.

Both offenses scored seven points in the third quarter. Aaron Topham led PBJH with five points and Alstrom added two points as the Tomahawks trailed 24-21 with one quarter left to play.

PBJH tied the game with less than a minute remaining in the game. With 12 seconds on the clock, PBJH missed a potential game-winning basket. A Berean foul gave PBJH two shots from the foul line. Both were good and the defense held on for the two-point victory.

Topham added five more in the quarter while Alstrom and Martin Hofkamp each had two points.

The team will travel to Goessel for its next league contest.

B-team loses

PBJH reserves were defeated Thursday at home by Berean, 36-20.

Clint Jones led the team in scoring with nine points. Joseph Lopez had eight points, Caleb Hilliard two, and Abe Eldridge one.
