Trojan athletes earn All-Class 3A honors

Weinbrenner,

Peachey named to

boys' team;

Fast for girls' team

With the high school basketball season complete, All-State honors were released Sunday.

A total of three Hillsboro players were selected by Class 3A coaches for both the boys' and girls' teams.

Rounding out the Lady Trojans' selections was 6'1" Katie Fast, an honorable mention choice by both the Topeka Capital-Journal and the Wichita Eagle.

Fast helped lead the Trojans to a third-place finish in Hillsboro's sub-state showing, where they lost a 43-40 heartbreaker to state semifinalist Hesston.

Fast committed to stay in Hillsboro and play for Rusty Allen at up-and-coming Tabor.

For the second straight season, the Trojan boys' team finished third in Class 3A by again defeating the Riley County Falcons.

As a reward for a great 22-4 season, Tyler Peachey and Eric Weinbrenner were chosen as All-Class 3A players.

Boasting a team-high 14.8 points per game average, the 6'2" senior Peachey was named to Class 3A's second team by both publications.

Hillsboro fans have one more year to watch Weinbrenner, a deadly long-range shooter and the Trojans' second leading scorer.

Weinbrenner played only a partial season due to a broken wrist. The injury wasn't enough to keep the 5'10" junior from earning honorable mention by both newspapers, silencing the critics who wondered if he could fill brother Tyler's shoes taking over at point.

The duo combined to drop 40 points on the Frontenac Raiders in Hillsboro's opening-round waltz of the state tournament.

Two of the Trojans' adversaries in the state tournament, Riley County's Ryan Kluttz, and state runner-up Minneapolis' Ryan Wedel were named to Class 3A's first team.

The Lions' sophomore Wedel was selected to the Eagle's All-Class All-State's third team.

In the consolation title game between the Trojans and the Falcons, due largely to smothering defense from Hillsboro's Caleb Marsh, the Trojans held Class 3A's fourth leading scorer five points below his average.
