Trojan boys, girls defeat Halstead

Varsity boys

The Hillsboro varsity boys defeated Halstead Tuesday, 65-52, in Halstead.

Hillsboro led at the half, 29-26. Halstead came out the third quarter and outscored Hillsboro, but The Trojans came back in the fourth quarter and outscored the Dragons, 18-7.

Tyler Peachey led the Trojans in scoring with a game high 21 points. Peachey pulled down seven rebounds, three steals and five assists.

Eric Weinbrenner and Daniel Deckert both scored in double figures, Weinbrenner with 11 and Deckert with 10. Deckert had four rebounds, two steals, and one blocked shot, while Weinbrenner had steal, three assists, one steal, and one rebound.

Kyle Jilka had eight points, four assists, two steals, and five rebounds.

Other scorers include Caleb Marsh with seven points, three assists, two steals, one rebound; Derek Hamm with six points, four rebounds, three steals, three assists, and two blocked shots; and Aaron Yoder with two.

The team will host Wichita Collegiate Friday. Game time is 8 p.m.

Varsity girls

The Hillsboro High School varsity girls had no trouble with the struggling Halstead Dragons Tuesday night. Hillsboro defeated Halstead, 45-27.

Hillsboro led at the half, 25-13.

Only five Trojans scored for Hillsboro.

Amy Duerksen led the team scoring 12 points, followed by JuliAnne Chisholm with 11.

Emily Ratzlaff scored nine points, Hannah Marsh, seven, and Katie Fast, six.

Marsh led the team in rebounds grabbing down five. She also had four steals and four assists.

Ratzlaff had five steals and four assists.

Fast had three blocked shots and four steals.

Hillsboro 45, Halstead 27

Sterling

The Trojans lost at Sterling on a last second shot last Friday, 48-49.

Ratzlaff led the team with 14 points, four assists, three rebounds and one blocked shot. Fast had 10 points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Hamm came off the bench to make 100 percent of her field goals and free throws for a total of eight points. She also dished out two assists and pulled down two rebounds.

The Trojans take on the Wichita Collegiate Spartans at home on Friday. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
