Trojan boys roll into second round
The Hillsboro High School boys' basketball easily defeated Sterling 65-38 Tuesday at Brown Gym.
The 19-1 boys led 28-12 at half and had a 22-point third quarter in the lopsided victory. Eric Weinbrenner led the team with 17 points. Derek Hamm and Lucas Hamm each scored 10 points; Daniel Deckert, nine; Wade Weibert, seven; Kyle Kroeker, six; and Patrick Harrison, Adam Scheele, and Tim Funk, two points each.
The Trojans will play Lyons at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lyons.
Girls head
into round two
Hillsboro High School girls' basketball team had a slow start Monday in its game against Ellsworth before winning 45-34. The Trojans were down 13-8 after the first quarter. Hillsboro reversed the score in the second quarter, outscoring Ellsworth 13-8 for a 21-21 tie at the half. The Trojans scored 24 points to Ellsworth's 13 in the second half.
JuliAnne Chisholm led the team with 18 points. Hannah Marsh scored nine points; Megan Peachey, seven; Emily Ratzlaff, six; Amy Duerksen, three; and Tina Frick, two.
The Trojans play Lyons at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Lyons.
