Out of the Trojans' nine losses this season, the three-point loss at Halstead continues to haunt Hillsboro coach Darrell Knoll.
In losing that game, which Knoll knew his team was good enough to win, the Trojans had stumbled to a 1-3 start. Since then, its been a bumpy road.
But in its last home game of the season Friday, the Trojans avenged that loss and snapped a three-game losing streak to Halstead with a 50-38 victory.
"We had a good mentality the entire game," Knoll said. "Everybody came in and competed hard, I was pleased with that."
Senior Lucas Hamm scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help Hillsboro balance its season record at 9-9.
"Lucas had a really good game inside and he's been our anchor all year," Knoll said. "I was really happy to see him have a great game to finish out his home career."
Hillsboro was able to hang on to the lead almost the entire night, giving Knoll a chance to play reserves Gavin Serene and Clay Shewey. Serene scored a season-high five points and Shewey buried a three-pointer.
Hillsboro traveled to Lyons Tuesday, then wraps up the regular season at about 8 p.m. Friday against the Smoky Valley Vikings in Lindsborg.
