Trojan cross country team successful once again

Hillsboro High School cross country team had 20 runners set personal records Thursday at the Berean Academy meet. The boys' team ran five races, first-man through fifth-man, finishing first or second in each race. As a team the boys took first, and the girls finished sixth.

Isaac Leihy took first in the fifth-man race with a 3.1-mile time of 18:09. Nate Holmes (fourth-man, 17:53), and Sean Leihy (third-man, 17:22) both won their respective races. Cody MicMillen (second-man, 17:45) and Daniel Bookless (first-man, 16:41) both took second in their races.

"Between fewer hills, great weather, and the fact that the team is getting in pretty good shape made for 20 personal records," head coach Stuart Holmes said.

On the junior varsity boys' squad, Robert Jost (sixth, 19:05), Ric Johnson (seventh, 19:12), and Brandon McMillen (eight, 19:18) all finished in the top-10.

Jacque Fisher was the top girls' team finisher at 22nd with a two-mile time of 14:23. Greta Kliewer (28th), Carrie Schroeder (30th), Elissa Richert (32nd), Courtney Fast (51st), and Megan McCarty (56th) were the final girls' finishers.

"We look forward to competing in the league meet as there will be excellent competition in both the boys' and the girls' [race]," Holmes said. "I now our kids will be focused and run aggressively."
