Trojan girls breeze past Marion

After four games in the span of six days, the Hillsboro girls' basketball team got the breather it needed Friday with a breezy 55-39 win at Marion.
The Trojans, who had a 10-2 overall record before Tuesday's home game against Haven, will face a state-ranked opponent Friday at Hesston.
And next Tuesday, Hillsboro will host defending Class 3A state champion Wichita Collegiate, which Hillsboro defeated earlier this season. Game time is 6 p.m.
Against Marion, Hillsboro forced 33 turnovers in a game that was much more lopsided than the final score. The Trojans controlled the lead as well as the tempo, and held the Warriors to 31 percent shooting.
Senior JuliAnne Chisholm scored a team-high 13 points, and had five assists, five steals, and seven rebounds.
Chisholm's fast break and a Tina Frick basket with about a minute left in the first half matched the Trojans' largest lead of the half of 10 points for the third time to give Hillsboro a 29-19 cushion heading into the second half.
In the third, Trojan guard Hannah Marsh scored eight consecutive, to put Hillsboro ahead, 37-19.
The lead allowed Hillsboro Coach Dale Honeck to rest his starters and give his reserves some well-deserved playing time. All but three of them scored.
