Trojan girls improve by leaps and bounds

In December when the Trojans were 0-3, Coach Becky Carlson said they would "get better a little bit at a time."

She was right except the Trojans have gotten better in leaps and bounds. They now have won four in a row and are 5-3.

They won their fourth consecutive game Tuesday by defeating Sterling 43-39 at home.

Leading the way in scoring for the Trojans was freshman Hannah Marsh with 12 points followed by freshman JuliAnne Chisholm with 10.

Other scorers were Amy Duerksen and Katie Fast with six points each, Emily Ratzlaff with four, Marissa Diener with three, and Sara Hamm with two.

The team was 16 of 30 from the two-point range for 53.3 percent.

Duerksen and Chisholm lead in rebounds with six each, followed by Fast with five, Ratzlaff with four, and Marsh with one.

Lyons

It took the Trojans an overtime period Friday night to defeat the Lions, 49-46, at Lyons.

Although Hillsboro led at the half by one and by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter, the Lions came back to tie the game, 41-41 at the end of regulation. In the last seconds of the game, a three-pointer by Chisholm and a free throw by the Lions tied the game at 46-46. Another three-pointer by Chisholm at the buzzer sealed the 49-46 win.

Freshman Chisholm led the team with nine of nine shooting, including two three-pointers. She also had three steals, four assists, and seven rebounds.

Emily Ratzlaff was four of five from two-point range and four of four from the line for 12 points.

The Trojans are now 3-0 for the second half of their season and 3-3 overall. They play Halstead at 6:30 p.m. Friday at home.
