Trojan golfers end season at regionals

The Hillsboro High School golf team ended its season at the regional golf tournament held May 17 at Medicine Lodge.

In a field of nine teams, Hillsboro placed eighth with a team score of 405.

Hesston won first place with a team score of 320, Cheney was second with 331, Trinity Academy was fourth with 334, and Marion was fourth with 337.

Andrew Bina led the Trojans with an individual score of 83 but did not place in the top 10.

Other Trojan scores were Lance Bartel scoring 105; Derek Hamm, 108; Ricky Johnson, 109; Kody Borg, 112; and Jordan Allen, 116.

"Although we're disappointed how we finished the year, throughout the season, there were some bright spots," O'Hare said.

With only one senior on the team, O'Hare said most of the varsity will be back and they "should form a solid foundation to rebuild the program on next year."

"With some out-of-season practice and some young talent coming up, I believe the golf program will be back competing at a high level in the near future," O'Hare added.

The team placed sixth at the MCAA League golf meet held May 10 at Hesston.

Rounding out the top three teams were Hesston first, Wichita Collegiate second, and Marion third.

Hamm placed 26th with a score of 93; Johnson placed 27th scoring 93; Allen placed 28th scoring 93; lance Bartel placed 31st scoring 97; and Randy Klassen placed 45th scoring 109.
