Trojan golfers fourth at tourney

The Trojan golf team got their final tuneup Friday, competing in the Marion/Hillsboro tournament.

Hillsboro had a trio of medalists paced by Daniel Kunanataev's third-place finish which helped the Trojans grab fourth place overall with a 636 score.

The Trojans were scheduled to open the postseason Monday with the MCAA league meet at Hoisington, but rain forced the event to be rescheduled for either Thursday or Friday at a course yet to be named.

Kunantaev scored a 72 on the Hillsboro course, and a 75 on Marion's 18 for 147.

Class 4A Topeka-Hayden was the winner overall in all classes, 31 strokes under runner-up Marion.

The Wildcats placed five competitors in the top 15 with Brian Walker and Brandon Falley at first and second, respectively.

Elliot Soyez was eighth with a 152, shooting an 80 on the Hillsboro greens and a 72 on Marion's course.

Justin Kent rounded out the top placers for Hillsboro, scoring a 77, and a 79 for 156 on Hillsboro and Marion's courses, respectively.

The Trojans shot a 316 on Hillsboro's course, and 320 on Marion's.
