Trojan JV football team downs Fighting Irish

Jacob Yoder rushed for a game-high 124 yards and two touchdowns to help the Trojan junior varsity team (1-1) hold off visiting Chapman Monday night, 24-14.

"We played with purpose tonight," Trojan coach Darrell Knoll said. "The offense committed relatively few errors and did a great job executing both run and pass plays. We were really pleased with the team effort tonight."

Daniel Jost put Hillsboro in front for good in the second quarter with a 26-yard touchdown run.

Jost then hit Brett McIntosh for a nine-yard completion in the third quarter for a 12-0 shutout.

Yoder hauled in a 25-yard pass from Jost to increase the lead to 18-0 before the Irish could cut into the lead.

Up 18-8 in the fourth quarter, the Trojans stormed 80 yards in three plays capped off by a 45-yard scamper by Yoder to secure their first win.

Ishmael Morris also had 14 carries for 35 yards on the Trojans' 184 yard night rushing.

Jost finished 5-of-9 for 72 yards.

Led by two interceptions and four solo tackles from Dustin Strunk, Hillsboro's defense limited the Fighting Irish to 106 yards of offense and six on the ground.

Brandon Brown had four solo and four assisted tackles, Tyler Suderman had four and three, Michael Scheele added one and four with a sack, and Jon Crouse, two, three, and a fumble recovery.
