Trojan netters upend Halstead Dragons

The Hillsboro High School varsity volleyball team competed Tuesday at Halstead. Hillsboro won both matches in two games, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-22, 25-21.

In the second match, Hillsboro was 91.9 percent in serving.

Danielle Goossen, Alisa Prior, and JuliAnne Chisholm served 100 percent. Goossen was 17 of 17 with five aces, Prior was 16 of 16 with one ace, and Chisholm was 16 of 16 with three aces. Amy Goertzen was 91.3 percent making 21 of 23 with four aces.

Chisholm was 100 percent along with Katie Fast in attacks. Chisholm was 14 of 14 with four kills and Fast was nine of nine with two kills.

The team is now 12-7 for the season.

The Trojans will compete Oct. 14 against the Black Bears in Sterling. Game time is 5 p.m.

Oct. 2, Canton-Galva Tournament

The team competed in the Canton-Galva Tournament on last Saturday against Moundridge, Solomon, and Canton-Galva.

In the first match of the day, Hillsboro defeated Moundridge winning the first game, 25-23, losing the second game, 25-22. But the Trojans went on to win the third, in another close game, 15-13.

The team was 96 percent in serving.

Serving 100 percent was Prior who made 14 of 14, followed by Jessica Ratzloff who was nine of nine, Emily Ratzlaff was seven of seven and Goossen was six of six. Duerksen was 16 of 17 for 94.1 percent.

Chisholm was 11 of 11 for attacks that included four kills. Prior was nine of 11 with two kills.

Prior also led in digs with nine followed by Ratzlaff with eight.

In the second match, Hillsboro lost to Solomon.

Hillsboro lost the first game 25-3, but came back to win the second, 25-18, but lost the third 15-7.

Leading the way in serving was Goossen, making eight of eight with two aces. Duerksen was eight of nine with four aces followed by Prior who was 13 of 15 with three aces.

Katie Fast was six of seven in attacks with one kill. She also had two blocks and three stuffs.

In the third match of the day, Hillsboro lost to Canton-Galva, 25-16, 25-14.

Prior, Duerksen, and Ratzlaff were 100 percent each in serving. Prior was 11 of 11 with one ace, Ratzlaff was nine of nine with two aces, and Duerksen was seven of seven.

Goossen was 94.4 percent in setting making 17 of 18 with one assist followed by Duerksen who was 92 percent making 23 of 25 with four assists.

Ratzloff led the team in digs with 10.
