Trojan spikers drops match
In a battle between top-ranked and undefeated teams, the Moundridge Wildcats defeated Hillsboro Trojans, 25-19, 25-12, Saturday to win the Canton-Galva Invitational volleyball tournament in Canton.
Moundridge, the top-ranked Class 2A team, and Hillsboro, the top-ranked Class 3A team, began the tournament in different pools. Both advanced easily to the final.
Three Hillsboro players, Julianne Chisholm, Tina Frick, and Amy Neufeld, were named to the all-tournament team.
In pool play, Hillsboro defeated Canton-Galva, Hesston, and Little River, while Moundridge beat Solomon, Halstead, and the Wichita Home School Warriors.
In the semifinals, Hillsboro defeated Wichita, 25-15, 25-17, and Moundridge defeated Little River, 25-15, 25-16.
The Trojans were back in action Tuesday at Wichita Collegiate, and play at Hesston next Tuesday.
Hillsboro will host the Trojan Invitational tournament on Saturday, Oct. 14, beginning at 9 a.m.
The sub-state tournament will be held Oct. 21, at a site to be determined. The Class 3A state championship tournament will be held Oct. 27-28, in Salina.
