Trojan Warriors

Trojans are the University of California sports teams, the Hillsboro High School sports teams, and Trojans are noted as warriors of the past. Every school child knows about Helen of Troy and the Trojan horse used by the Greeks to gain access to the city of Troy.

We agree that people know of Trojans today as HHS and USC sports teams. They also know about Trojan warriors of history.

But, when you combine the names Trojans and Warriors you are trampling on tradition in Marion County because Warriors identifies Peabody-Burns and Marion high schools while Trojans identifies HHS.

The schools' sports competition should continue, it makes the communities succeed. But animosity should stop before the towns destroy each other.

There are numerous professional and commercial businesses and people in all Marion County towns who share allegiance to more than one community. They live in one town and attend church in the other, they live in one town and work in the other, or they work in one town and own substantial interest in commercial establishments in one or more communities.

As the old adage goes, we are "shooting ourselves in the foot" when we tear each other down. It's a time for cooperation. Abraham Lincoln would advise that a county divided against itself cannot stand.
