Trojans 1-0 after victory against Smoky Valley
Clay Shewey scored 14 points, and Gavin Serene added 11 Monday as Hillsboro High School boys' basketball team won its first-round game against Smoky Valley in the Cheney tournament.
Shewey added five rebounds and four steals in a game that saw the Trojans score just 15 points in the first half.
A 20-8 third-quarter explosion, gave HHS a 35-28 lead heading into the final quarter, as it held on for a 47-42 victory.
Other scorers in the game for Hillsboro were: David Loewen, 7; Andy Klausen, 7; Daniel Jost, 5; Taylor Hagen, 3.
The Trojans will play two more games this week in the tournament.
