Trojans continue hot streak on volleyball court

After a 4-10 start to the volleyball season last year, Hillsboro High School coach Sandy Arnold made it clear to her players she wanted them to get off on the right foot this season.
Mission accomplished.
The Trojans notched two more victories in the win column Sept. 6 with defeats of Halstead and Haven to improve their record to 8-2.
"I was pleased," Arnold said. "The girls have felt a little bit of pressure but now we're just trying to relax and have fun."
In the first match HHS took care of Halstead in two games, 25-20 and 25-14.
"We didn't start out very good in the first game," Arnold said. "In the second game we fought back and performed like I wanted to perform."
In the second match the Trojans started off slow again with a 25-23 loss to the Haven Wildcats. Once again they bounced back with a 25-21 victory in game two and a 25-17 victory in game three to take the match.
"They were very scrappy," Arnold said of the Wildcats. "They were smart in their serving and hitting and we had to make some adjustments."
Hillsboro played Tuesday in its first home dual of the season against Wichita Collegiate. Its next match will be Tuesday in another home dual against Hesston.
Junior varisty
The Trojan junior varsity volleyball squad went 3-0 in pool play Saturday at the Lyons tournament. As the number one seed in bracket play the team defeated Chase but fell to Lyons in the finals.
"It was good to see them succeed," Arnold said.
