Trojans defeat Halstead, Chase Co.

The Hillsboro High School wrestlers competed in a double dual at Halstead last Thursday. The team wrestled Halstead and Chase County, beating Halstead 49-22, and Chase County 47-30.

On Saturday, the junior varsity wrestlers competed in a tournament in Haven.

Hillsboro High School wrestling coach Scott O'Hare was pleased with the win against Halstead.

"It was nice to avenge an earlier loss to Halstead," said O'Hare. "They beat us at Marion the first dual of the season. This dual really shows the progress we have made as a team."

O'Hare was nervous about the Chase County dual because they have some experienced wrestlers, and according to O'Hare, "Chase County had been right in the mix of things at a number of tournaments we had been at."

"We were able to win a lot of key matches in some of the lower and middle weights," said O'Hare.

He said the team competed hard and wrestled with a lot of intensity at both duals.

"I was pleased with our overall performance at both duals," said O'Hare. "We still have some fundamental and technical things to work on, but we are wrestling pretty well for this time of the season."

The JV tournament Saturday gave the younger wrestlers more valuable mat-time according to O'Hare.

"Many of these guys are getting very little match experience during the week in duals, so these last three weekends of JV tournaments are very nice to have scheduled," said O'Hare. "They are getting the opportunity to wrestle three to four matches in a day, and I am seeing some good things coming from it."

In the championship round, Alex Jost placed fourth in his weight class, Zach Jost placed third, Ross Schroeder placed fourth, Grady Stultz placed third, Jacob Yoder placed third, and C.J. Shaw placed fourth.
