Hillsboro boys open 2006 on six-game winning streak
The Trojan boys continued to roll Friday in Nickerson, outdoing the Panthers 59-47 to run their record to 6-1 on the season.
Hillsboro had Nickerson doubled over 18-9 after the first quarter and got a 10-point boost from Wade Weibert to help take a 39-19 lead at the break.
Weibert finished with a game-high 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds as Hillsboro enjoyed a hot-shooting 55 percent night.
Kyle Kroeker added 13 points despite going a rough one-for-four from outside amidst dishing out a team-high four assists.
Macy Fadenrecht had 10 points, including a perfect two-for-two behind the arc.
Three days earlier in Hillsboro, a double-double of 17 points, 13 rebounds by Lucas Hamm helped the Trojans run their winning streak to five games, holding off the El Dorado Wildcats, 43-37.
With the game tied up at 9-9 after the first quarter, the Trojans used a 17-10 run in the second to build a 26-19 lead going in at half.
With seven of his 17 coming in the third quarter, Hamm helped Hillsboro stretch the lead to 39-29 heading into the final lap.
The Wildcats made a late surge, outscoring the Trojans 8-4 the fourth quarter, but the Trojans did enough early to hang on.
Hillsboro faces one of its biggest tests of the regular season besides next week's Trojan Classic around 8 p.m. Friday when it travels to red-hot 7-1 Lyons.
