Trojans improve to 8-6
Hillsboro High School girls' basketball team improved its record to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the league with a lopsided 49-29 victory Tuesday at Halstead.
The Trojans, shooting 50 percent from two-point range and 22 percent from three-point range, never trailed in the game. Sophomore JuliAnne Chisholm led the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds, her second double-double in two consecutive games. Senior Amy Duerksen scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Last Friday, the varsity girls defeated Marion 53-35. Marsh led the team in scoring with 24 points, shooting 86 percent from the field in two-pointers and 67 percent in three-pointers. Chisholm scored 15 points, had seven steals, and pulled down 10 rebounds. Duerksen had nine points and six rebounds.
The girls play Sterling at home Friday and travel to Lindsborg to take on Smoky Valley on Tuesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
JV team is 1-1
The junior varsity girls' basketball team lost 45-41 at Marion Friday. Leading scorer was Lora Andrews with nine points. Other scorers were Audrey Weinbrenner, eight points; Jessica Heidel, Amanda Faber, and Tina Frick with six points each; Jessica Klose, four; and Amy Neufeld, two.
Jan. 25, the JV team defeated El Dorado 47-33. Weinbrenner led the team with 16 points. Other scorers included Heidel, 14 points; Frick, 10 points; Jenny Whisenhunt, five points; Andrews, two points; and Megan McCarty, one point.
Frosh are 2-0
The freshmen girls' basketball defeated Marion 44-30 last Friday. Amanda Bina and Amy Neufeld led the team with 15 points each. Faber scored five points and Samantha Heinrichs and Courtney Fast, three points each.
The freshmen defeated El Dorado 38-14 Jan. 25. Scorers included Faber, nine points; Heinrichs, eight; Neufeld, seven; Bobbi Jo Carlson, six; and Bina, Fast, Jessica Klose, and Chelsea Bebermeyer, two points each.
