Trojans stagger into Lyons regional
Hillsboro baseball team ends regular season on sour note
Trojan head baseball coach Dustin McEwen's inaugural season turned out to be his swan song. He resigned his positions as the Hillsboro football, baseball coach and math teacher.
The eight-year coach and teacher at Hillsboro High School has accepted positions at Cheney were he will resume duties as an assistant football coach.
McEwen's first year at the helm of the Trojan baseball program has been a rough one, with the regular season coming to a close Tuesday night in Hillsboro against the Moundridge Wildcats.
The formidable Wildcats beat the Trojans in their second game in two days, making short work of Hillsboro, 13-2 and 11-0.
The Trojans' week got off to a bad start Monday when they dropped a pair against the hosting Inman Teutons.
The doubleheader against the Teutons was the same old story for Hillsboro — a heartbreaker.
Inman swept the Trojans, running away with the opener, 14-4. Hillsboro blew a big lead in the finale to tumble, 15-12.
The 3-15 Trojans open the post-season at 2 p.m. Monday in the Lyons' Regional meeting against second-seeded Southeast of Saline.
