Trojans sweep for sixth straight victory

Prior to the season, one goal for the Lady Trojans softball team was to win the conference outright and go through the league undefeated

Defensive mistakes have been instrumental in four losses, but Hillsboro (11-4) seems to be getting on track after sweeping their third consecutive opponent Friday at Lyons, 11-1, and 7-1.

With two weeks left in the regular season, the Trojans will get a week off after traveling Tuesday to Hesston.

The next stop for Hillsboro is a Tuesday meeting at 4:30 p.m. against the visiting Haven Lady Wildcats, one of the three teams a year ago to spoil the Trojans' unbeaten season.

Hillsboro wasted no time pouncing on the Lions the first inning, rallying for two runs off a sacrifice bunt from Jessica Klose and a two-out single by Steph Abbott.

The Trojans tacked three more on to their 2-0 lead with Brianna Loewen emptying the bases on a triple.

Jenesa Klose neutralized the Lions' offense, hurling a four-hitter for the easy win as Hillsboro's offense pushed Lyons around for 10 hits.

Luckily for the Lions, the game didn't go seven innings with the Trojans pasting their final six runs off in the sixth inning for the run-rule with the boost from an RBI double by Amanda Bina.

The Trojans struck in the second inning of the nightcap, taking a 2-0 lead, again one Lyons never could overcome.

The game blew up on the Lions the sixth inning with Bina supplying three of Hillsboro's final five runs with another base-clearing triple.

The other two runs came from Lora Andrews, who also had a double, and Jessica Klose.
