Trojans take fifth at tournament
Hillsboro High School volleyball team won four of five matches Saturday at the Mid-Central Activities Association tournament in Hoisington and finished fifth.
"You can't lose at the wrong time in these tournaments," head coach Sandy Arnold said.
Unfortunately for HHS it did.
After defeating Marion in three games and Wichita Collegiate in two, the Trojans headed into bracket play as the number one seed out of their pool.
Once a team loses in bracket play the best it can do is fifth.
Hillsboro made sure it would do no worse, after defeating fellow 2004 state qualifier Lyons in two games, 25-13 and 25-20, and Marion in two, 25-17 and 25-19.
"It seems like we play Marion 15 times a year," Arnold said.
Although it's not quite that much, the Trojans are now 5-0 against MHS the last two seasons and will play Marion at least twice more this year.
Hillsboro continues its season at 4 p.m. Tuesday with a quad at Burlington.
