Trojans win six in a row

Playing aggressive defense and committing only six turnovers, the Trojan girls' varsity basketball team continued on its six-game winning streak Friday at home. The girls defeated Halstead 52-15.

Freshman JuliAnne Chisholm scored the first two points at 6:10 in the game and one of the last buckets with less than three minutes left in the game. Chisholm, who was high-point scorer for the Trojans, scored the Trojans' first seven points and had 15 points on 58 percent shooting and six rebounds.

Offensively, the Trojans struggled the first quarter, missing some easy shots and not getting into the flow of their offense.

"We didn't move the ball well in the first quarter," coach Becky Carlson said. "We played good defense but didn't get into the flow of our offense."

Junior Marissa Diener came off the bench to give a spark to the Trojans by scoring eight points, including two-for-two three-point shooting. Diener also had two steals and three assists.

Freshman Hannah Marsh hit one of her two three-pointers at the buzzer to end the first quarter, and Diener hit a three-pointer to begin the second quarter. Hillsboro was four for eight from the three-point range. At half time, the score was 32-8.

The Trojans are still struggling at the free throw line, making only four of 13 while the Dragons were five of six. The winless Dragons only made five baskets while the Trojans were 47 percent from the floor.

By the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Trojans led 48-11, and the running clock rule began.

The Trojans are now 6-3 and will play at Abilene on Friday.
