Truman Diener
Truman L. Diener, 82, of Hillsboro died Oct. 26, 2003, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.
Born May 15, 1921, at Yoder, he was the son of Harry A. and Amanda (Seltzer) Diener.
At age 12, he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized by his father at the Yoder Mennonite Church.
He attended Haven High School for two years and competed high school at Hesston Academy in 1940.
In 1943, he was drafted and served his time as a conscientious objector in civilian public service. He served in Terry, Montana; Dennison, Iowa; and Poughkeepsie, New York.
He met his future wife, Venora Wiebe in Poughkeepsie; she was a volunteer through the COG program working at the mental hospital.
After CPS he served as a MCC worker in Ethiopia from 1946-48.
After returning from Ethiopia, he married Venora on Sept. 10, 1948.
He taught vo-ag in Miltonvale for 3 1/2 years. In 1955, the couple moved to Hillsboro, where he taught vo-ag for 34 years at Hillsboro High School and was an adviser for the Hillsboro FFA Chapter.
He was a member of Trinity Mennonite Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998, and brothers, Harold Glen, Willard, and Daniel.
Survivors include his sons, Tim and his wife Donna of Hillsboro and Glen and his wife Sharon of Newton; daughter, Ann and her husband Bryce Kopper of Garden City; brothers, Edward of Archibold, Ohio, Clayton and Paul, both of Hesston, and Herman of South Hutchinson; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 29 at Trinity Mennonite Church with Pastor Tim Kliewer officiating.
A memorial fund has been established with the church.
