USD 410 buys land years ago
Hillsboro USD 410 board of education met in special session Sept. 5 to approve an acquisition of 10 acres of land from Hillsboro Development Corporation (HDC) at a cost of $3,000 per acre or $30,000.
The tract of land is located south of the city shop on the west side of Adams Street. A transportation/maintenance/central office facility will be built on the site.
The building will house the current fleet of buses, maintenance tools, copier paper, offices, and provide extra storage space. The superintendent, clerk, treasurer, TEEN director, and director of transportation/maintenance will occupy the offices.
After viewing sketches, board members discussed available parking for bus drivers while they are on duty, protection from weather, climate control (specifically to protect the paper from the elements), sizes of the rooms, and the aesthetics of the building.
Following completion of land surveys and soil tests, more detailed drawings will be shared with the board.
In other business the board:
— Discussed the Hillsboro elementary and high school facility improvement projects. Interviews are scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday with with construction management companies.
