Valuation notices have been mailed

Marion County Appraiser Dianna Carter-Frantz announced the 2004 valuation notices have been mailed and county property owners will be receiving the notices soon.

The appraiser's office has the responsibility of valuing all residential and commercial properties in the county using gathered data.

"Residential and commercial values have remained fairly steady across the county," said Carter-Frantz, "with individual property values varying due to changes in characteristics and market comparison."

The county market trend study shows an overall increase in residential properties of approximately one percent with the commercial market trend remaining relatively unchanged.

Agricultural land owners will notice changes in the valuations. Dry crop per acre values increased and tame grass values decreased.

Agricultural land values are set by the state's property valuation division. The county has the responsibility of listing the correct use and soil type for the property.

To view the information listed for individual properties, log on to the county website at www.marioncoks.net. Click on "appraiser" and then parcel search at the left of the screen. Type in the last name of the property owner to search and lick on the parcel ID #.

If an error is found, contact the appraiser's office.

Property owners who do not agree with the market value placed on their property, will have 30 days from the valuation date to file an appeal. Information may be requested without filing an appeal.

For more information or to file an appeal, contact the appraiser's office by e-mail at app@marioncoks.net, by phone at 620-382-3715, or visit the office in the lower level of the courthouse.
