VBS venture deemed successful

Staff writer

Parkview and Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren churches joined forces to host Vacation Bible School this summer from July 11-15.

With the burning of Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, the combined VBS was held at Parkview. According to some VBS committee members, the program has been successful.

More than 135 young people were in attendance from pre-school to teens, according to committee members Gaye Funk and Shelly Loewen.

Ninety-five helpers included committee members, worship and praise leaders, musicians, station and crew leaders, as well as craft and snack helpers.

Director Jan Terman said this was HMB's fourth year doing the "Lava Lava Island: Where Jesus' Love Flows" VBS program. It is the first year for Parkview.

The curriculum calls for groups to include students of all ages which adds to the interaction of the youth. Teens are assigned as crew leaders giving them the opportunity to serve as mentors to the younger children.

Every station from the Bible story time and worship and praise to the crafts and snacks highlight and emphasize Jesus and his principles.

The combined VBS program will conclude tonight. Parents are invited to come at 8:40 p.m. to see what their children have been doing at Vacation Bible School. Pastor Tim Sullivan will give a short devotional during the program.
