Verna Alice Decker

Verna Alice Decker, 87, of Hesston, died Jan. 31, 2002.

Born Feb. 4, 1914, in rural Durham, she was the daughter of Alfred B. and Susie (Redger) Jantz. Feb. 14, 1935, she married Elmer Decker at the Friedentstal Mennonite Church at rural Durham. He survives of Hesston.

She lived in the Tampa and Durham area her entire life until moving to Hesston more than two years ago. She was a member of Central Heights Mennonite Church in rural Durham and a member of the Tobs Sewing Circle. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Elizabeth Jantz and Hulda Decker, brothers Nathan, Jonathan, Arthur and Norman, and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include her husband; son Wayne Decker and wife Edna of Hesston; brothers Melvin Jantz of Moundridge and Harold Jantz of North Newton; sisters Darlene Unruh of Hillsboro and Elvera Dirks of Barryton; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were Feb. 4 at the Central Heights Mennonite Church in rural Durham. Rev. Steve Toews and Rev. Ed Stucky officiated. Burial was at Peace Valley Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with The Calvary Hour and Back to the Bible.
