Vernon L. Minns

Vernon L. Minns, 80, Hillsboro, died Dec. 4, 2004, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.

Born July 30, 1924, in McPherson, he was the son of Paul and Frieda (Fisher) Minns. He attended McPherson High School and served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II.

On July 7, 1946, he married Helen Winter in Galva. She died Nov. 18, 1979. On May 10, 1981, he married Shirley Brumm Blackwell at Branson, Mo. She survives.

He was a retired oil field worker, farmer, and salesman and former owner of Canton Recreation.

He was a member of Tampa Lutheran Church in Tampa and Canton American Legion Post #192. He was a lifetime member of McPherson VFW and former mayor and councilman for Lehigh and Marion County resident since 1961.

He was preceded in death by son, Jack Kendal Minns; brother, Lester Minns; and sisters, Pauline Reeves and Deloris Rabey.

Survivors include his wife of Hillsboro; foster sons, Vernon C. Henry of Hillsboro and Roger Colgin of Canton; and sister, Betty Dickinson of Roseburg, Ore.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 9 at Olson's Mortuary in Canton. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 10 at Lehigh Township Cemetery in Lehigh with Rev. Clark Davis officiating.

Memorials have been established with M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston, Texas, and St. Judes Children's Hospital, both in care of Olson's Mortuary, Canton.
