Victor Herbel
Victor Herbert Herbel, 88, of Hillsboro, died May 3, 2002, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.
Born Sept. 15, 1913, to Gottfried and Marie (Galyardt) Herbel, he was the youngest of 10 children. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church and was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.
He attended Zion Parochial and Hillsboro schools, graduating in 1932. He married Gwydotta DeLair on June 26, 1940.
He was the owner of Hillsboro Sundries, selling the business and retiring in 1980. He served on the Hillsboro City Council, Marion County Lake Board and Marion County Fair Association.
Survivors include his wife of Hillsboro; daughters, Vicki and husband Sheldon Steinle of Little River and Tuss and husband Alan Ludvickson of Eugene, Ore.; son, Dennis of Dillon, Colo.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated, and a service will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established with the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund of Hillsboro.
