Weight room will get padded floor, mats

Staff reporter

A rubber floor for $13,230 will be installed in the new weight room.

USD 410 board of education approved the expense July 14, after Max Heinrichs reported that he had contacted a weight room equipment salesman about the cost of a 3/8-inch thick flooring.

The matting comes in 4x50-foot rolls at $500 per roll. The school will need 20 rolls. There will be a heavier, black mat installed under the weights. All of the materials will cost $13,230, delivered but not installed.

With the installation of the flooring, the cost for sealing the concrete will be removed from the project budget.

Heinrichs said it will take four to five weeks for delivery.

In other business:

— Maintenance supervisor Keith Goossen reported that floors were being installed and doors are being hung in the new addition at Hillsboro High School.

At Hillsboro Elementary School, the roof is not on yet but was supposed to be constructed this past week.

Superintendent Doug Huxman said he questioned whether the work was going to be "significantly completed" as promised by the contractor.

He continued that there have been questions asked about a sealer on the locker room floor. Huxman explained that when the board reviewed the overage on bids, it was a significant savings of about $25,000 to remove the sealer from the project.

"There are those who think that should be changed but now it will cost $31,000 for epoxy," Huxman said. Instead, he said, there will be a sealer applied with some sand grit to lessen slippage.

Tile will be installed in the new bathrooms.

— The board gave Huxman authority to implement a vehicle replacement rotation program for buses and district vehicles.

— Bids will be sought by Huxman for two mini-vans.

— The board held a five-minute executive session for the purpose of preliminary discussion related to the acquisition of real property. There were no decisions when the meeting reconvened.

The next board meeting is at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 in the technology center.
