Welcome Home, Molly
After successful surgery on Monday, U.S. Army Spec. Molly Holub should be coming home this weekend.
This comes as welcome and sobering news to we Marion County residents, who in the bubble of our seclusion may have forgotten the thousands of sons and daughters in uniform, serving in harm's way.
Molly, a member of Headquarters Company, 3rd Special Troop Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, was wounded Sept. 5, when an explosive device was activated and shrapnel hit her as she was riding in a vehicle north of Baghdad. She was flown to a hospital in Germany and then to Washington, D.C.
She is a 2004 Marion High School graduate and the daughter of Dan and Rhonda Holub, rural Marion.
According to her father, Molly's left eye was removed and surgeons did not find any other injuries. Fractures to her face also are healing well, Holub said. She will be examined Thursday and Holub expects his daughter to be released. Dan Holub plans to return home Thursday. Molly and her brother Chris will return by the weekend.
There are many people who've supported Molly and her family through this ordeal. And for those who might be wondering about her homecoming, the word is that it will be private and include no fanfare, which is certainly understandable.
As a tribute to Molly, for her valiant sacrifice, and, to her family, for what they have endured, we offer a prayer for peace, and extend to them our thanks.
