What a season

The third-place game probably wasn't the exact game the Hillsboro Trojans had planned on playing in.

They probably wanted something a little later in the evening — say, the championship game.

But those guys have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Instead, they've got every reason to be proud.

See, the thing about state is that when you get there, all the teams are good. There are no "easy" games, no weak teams.

And when you realize that Hillsboro won two of three games at state — that's saying a lot. That's a feat that not many teams can claim.

It must have been pretty sweet for the Trojans to beat Riley County, the team that booted them out in the first round last year.

Congratulations, guys. Congratulations for an amazing season. Thanks for entertaining us all year.

But while we're on the subject, let's thank a few more people.

How about the parents? They're the ones traveling to every game, keeping their students in a homework frame of mind.

And the fans — definitely the fans. They fill the stands for every game, and not just in Hillsboro. It was pretty impressive to look up into the stands at Hutch and see a sea of maroon.

Give credit to the student section too. When you're standing on the court and your ears actually hurt when the fan section screams — that's when you know the fans are loud.

To everybody who's been a part of Trojan basketball this year, enjoy these moments. You've earned them.
