Wiebe hired as head soccer coach
Herb Wiebe, financial aid representative at Tabor College, has been hired as the new head women's soccer coach at Tabor.
"Herb brings a strong soccer background that will allow him to provide excellent leadership to the women's soccer team," said Don Brubacher, Tabor College athletic director. "He also is an experienced recruiter who will bring talented players to the program. I expect those two strengths to develop a program that will return to the KCAC dominance we enjoyed just a few years ago."
Wiebe graduated from Tabor College in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and biblical and religious studies and is currently seeking his master's in educational psychology from Wichita State University.
While at Tabor, Wiebe participated in the men's soccer program three seasons, being named an all-conference player three seasons and captain two seasons.
Before attending Tabor, Wiebe played for the Kilcona Strikers, Winnipeg, Manitoba, the bronze medallists at the 1997 Canadian Club Nationals. As an 18-year-old, he also participated on the Manitoba U21 team as the second youngest player.
For the past two years, Wiebe served as the assistant men's soccer coach at Tabor and gained experience working soccer camps for Athletes in Action.
Wiebe said he would like to see the women's team become one of the best in the region and be a favorite for winning conference each year.
"I believe it starts with good recruiting, a commitment to learning the game and being physically and mentally prepared for each game," he said.
