Wildflower enthusiasts invited to lake tour
A wildflower tour will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon June 1 at Marion County Lake.
The tour will begin at the lake hall with a presentation from Vaugh Sothman of Sharp Brothers Seed Company who will present a program about wildflowers and native grasses. He will discuss growing using these plants in various settings, harvesting their seeds, and provide the latest information about buffalo grass.
A self-guided tour will follow the presentation. Wildflowers and native plants will be flagged and numbered with an accompanying pamphlet.
Plant specialists from Natural Resources Conservation Services will be available to answer questions.
Call Marion County Conservation District office at (620) 382-3520 by Tuesday to make a reservation for the free tour. The event is sponsored by the conservation district, NRCS, Marion County Lake, and Sharp Brothers Feed Company.
